Elizabeth Reaser : “Sometimes, I wish I could start over”

By Eva Vibes

If you love movies that blend laughter, strong emotions, and a bit of a biting edge against Hollywood, then The Uninvited is sure to intrigue you. This new film hits UK theaters on May 9, 2025, featuring an incredible cast: Walton Goggins (yes, the one we saw shining on the red carpets after The White Lotus), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian), and of course… Elizabeth Reaser.

But beware, if you imagine a relaxed atmosphere on set, you’re mistaken. Elizabeth admits it straight up:

“We only had 15 days to shoot, mostly at night. Everyone was exhausted; it was really intense.”

🎬 A story inspired by real life… but not too much

The idea for The Uninvited comes from Walton Goggins and his wife, Nadia Conners, who also directs. The story follows Rose (played by Reaser), a former actress turned stay-at-home mom. Her life flips upside down when an elderly woman shows up at her house claiming that the home is hers… and that’s when chaos ensues!

👉 Fun fact: Nadia Conners was inspired by a true event. A disoriented woman really showed up at their house! But she clarifies: “It’s not about my marriage; it’s not autobiographical. The film allowed me to explore certain resentments related to my role as a woman and a mother. A therapy… but movie version.”

🌹 Elizabeth Reaser: a Rose that resembles her

For Elizabeth, playing Rose was almost a mirror experience:

“A lot of Rose’s emotions, I experience myself. It was meta and quite therapeutic.”

She hopes the audience will have fun, but not only that:

“I’d like the viewers to feel what it’s like to be sidelined by the world. It’s funny, tragic, and unfair at the same time. And it matters to me that we feel it.”

⭐ An already cult career (and a touch of self-deprecation)

If you’ve been following her career a bit, you know that Elizabeth Reaser isn’t just The Haunting of Hill House or Twilight. She started over 20 years ago with significant roles in Saved, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Good Wife.

She even jokingly confessed:

“Sometimes, I wish I could do it all over again. I think I could act better today.”

And despite her impressive resume, she remains super humble:

“I would tell my younger self: ‘Don’t become an actress, find another job, and go to therapy instead.’” (she laughs)

📅 See you at the movies!

With her sharp humor, ever nuanced characters, and disarming honesty, Elizabeth Reaser proves once again that she is a unique actress. And honestly, The Uninvited is set to be THE must-see movie this spring.
